LPPOM awarded for commitment to science-based halal auditing
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Halal Inspection Agency (LPH) of the Institute for the Study of Food, Drugs, and Cosmetics (LPPOM) has been honoured with the Excellence in Pioneering Halal Auditing and Development award at the peak of the Indonesia Halal Awards 2026. The award recognises LPPOM’s commitment to conducting halal inspections based on scientific principles.
The Indonesia Halal Awards 2026 was organised by the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Prof. Zilhadia, a member of the Indonesia Halal Awards 2026 jury, stated in Jakarta on Tuesday that the combination of human resources, laboratory facilities, and service systems was a key strength that led LPPOM to achieve this award. According to him, LPH LPPOM presents a halal inspection model built upon three reinforcing pillars: auditor competence, internationally accredited laboratories, and an accountable service system.
He also highlighted LPPOM’s institutional continuity in facing developments in halal regulations and industry. He noted that this long journey demonstrates consistency in maintaining the quality of evidence amidst evolving regulations and the increasing complexity of the halal industry. “We hope this award serves as an affirmation that scientific integrity is a non-negotiable foundation within the national halal ecosystem,” he said.
Meanwhile, the President Director of LPH LPPOM, Muti Arintawati, stated that the award was received as a form of gratitude and a mandate to continue the commitment established since LPPOM’s inception. “We accept this award with great gratitude and as a mandate to continue maintaining the integrity of halal inspections in Indonesia. It is this mandate that we continue to uphold to this day,” she said.
She explained that in practice, LPPOM’s inspections encompass ingredient tracing, production processes, and critical points that could potentially affect product halality. Beyond ensuring compliance with administrative requirements, this capacity is supported by more than 700 auditors and a service network across various regions of Indonesia and partner countries. LPPOM has also served over 77,000 companies in 70 countries, with experience handling diverse industrial characters and material complexities.
“This capacity becomes increasingly important ahead of the full implementation of Mandatory Halal in October 2026,” she said. She added that the increasing volume and complexity of products will demand even stronger inspection readiness. As the full implementation of Mandatory Halal approaches in October 2026, the demand for halal inspection quality will rise alongside the increasing volume and complexity of products to be inspected.
“We are committed to continuously strengthening auditor capacity, expanding laboratory service reach, and supporting business actors, particularly MSMEs, to obtain halal certification correctly,” she said. She noted that this award from BPJPH serves as a reminder that public trust in Indonesia’s halal ecosystem is built upon a foundation of credible evidence.
She stated that LPPOM conducts education, empowerment, and certification facilitation for business actors, especially MSMEs, to help increase their understanding and readiness to meet halal product assurance regulations. The institution reaffirmed its commitment to developing inspection capacity, strengthening services, increasing literacy, and empowering business actors so that Indonesia’s halal ecosystem can grow credibly and sustainably.
The Indonesia Halal Awards 2026 complements various previous accolades received by LPPOM, including the Indonesia Halal Industry Awards (IHYA), Global Islamic Finance Awards (GIFA Awards), and the Indonesia Corporate Secretary Awards (ICSA). “These awards are part of our journey and a momentum to strengthen our contribution amidst changes in the national halal ecosystem,” she concluded.
