LPOI urges end to war and backs Prabowo as mediator
Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Lembaga Persaudaraan Ormas Islam (LPOI) has urged the immediate end to the war between the United States and Israel against Iran and expressed its support for President Prabowo Subianto to take on the role of mediator. ‘Indonesia must be able to lead proactive and courageous peace diplomacy, by initiating high-level dialogue, pushing for a permanent ceasefire, and championing humanitarian corridors without obstacles,’ said Said Aqil Siroj, the chairman of LPOI, in Jakarta on Tuesday. LPOI regards modern armed conflict as not only affecting the combat zone but also having broader consequences. War will trigger food crises, energy disruption, waves of refugees, extreme poverty, human rights abuses, and global economic instability. The greatest victims are always civilians—women, children, the elderly, and vulnerable groups—who lose the most fundamental right, namely the right to live in peace and dignity. ‘The world does not need escalation. The world needs dignified de-escalation. The world needs leadership that is guided by conscience, not by global domination,’ said Said Aqil. Said Aqil notes that Indonesia, with a free and active foreign policy, has historical legitimacy and a strategic position to act as a bridge for dialogue amid global geopolitical polarisation. Therefore, they express full support for President Prabowo’s initiative to strengthen international diplomacy oriented toward peace with justice.
