LPKA Jakarta and Puskesmas Jagakarsa Conduct Hantavirus Prevention Socialisation
The Jakarta Class II Special Child Development Institution (LPKA) is committed to increasing vigilance against the potential spread of infectious diseases within its residential environment. In cooperation with the Jagakarsa Community Health Centre (Puskesmas), LPKA Jakarta held an intensive socialisation on Hantavirus prevention targeting both officers and juvenile detainees. This activity was carried out as a preventive measure, considering that Hantavirus is a disease transmitted by rats and can be fatal if not treated quickly. The socialisation covered the introduction of symptoms, modes of transmission, and steps to maintain environmental sanitation to ensure the area is free from rat nests. The Head of LPKA Class II Jakarta stressed that the health of the detainees is a top priority in the rehabilitation process. Synergy with professional medical personnel is necessary to ensure health standards within the institution are maintained according to protocol. “We want to ensure that all LPKA occupants, both officers and juvenile detainees, understand the risks of Hantavirus. Environmental cleanliness is the main key. By partnering with Puskesmas Jagakarsa, we receive proper education on the mitigation steps that must be taken,” said the Head of LPKA Class II Jakarta in his statement. Meanwhile, a representative of the medical team from Puskesmas Jagakarsa explained that Hantavirus is generally transmitted through contact with the urine, faeces, or saliva of infected rats. The initial symptoms that appear often resemble the flu but can develop into serious respiratory disorders. “The most effective prevention is to break the chain of rat habitats. We educate participants to always maintain the cleanliness of food storage areas and ensure waste disposal is carried out in closed containers. Early detection is very important so that medical treatment can be carried out immediately,” said the resource person from Puskesmas Jagakarsa. In addition to the presentation of material, the activity continued with an inspection of the residential areas and kitchen to ensure the implementation of environmental cleanliness. LPKA Jakarta hopes this socialisation can build collective awareness in maintaining clean and healthy living behaviour (PHBS) in the work environment and residential block areas.
