LPG Prices in NTT Soar Due to Rupiah Depreciation
Residents of Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), are complaining about the scarcity and surge in LPG prices. Pertamina Patra Niaga Jatimbalinus states that similar conditions are occurring in several other areas of NTT.
Area Manager for Communication, Relations & CSR at Pertamina Patra Niaga Jatimbalinus, Ahad Rahedi, claims that LPG stocks remain safe and sufficient. Ahad confirms the price surge for LPG. According to him, one of the reasons for the high LPG prices is the weakening of the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar. Ahad states that the price increase for 12 kg LPG cylinders has even reached Rp 340,000.
“The price increase has occurred since 18 April due to several factors, including the adjustment of expedition prices since the end of last year due to global escalation, which has caused the price of world oil to rise,” explained Ahad on Saturday (25/4/2026).
“Other factors also stem from distribution and transportation costs. LPG is still imported, and the weakening of the rupiah against the dollar has impacted the adjustment of industrial diesel prices, which in turn affects ship distribution costs,” he continued.
Ahad advises the public to purchase LPG from Pertamina agents or outlets as extensions of the agents. According to him, this is to obtain more affordable prices compared to buying from retailers.
“Pertamina is always striving to maintain LPG stock resilience so that it is available and coordinating with relevant parties to ensure timely distribution and availability for the public,” explained Ahad.
Ahad mentioned that 600 cylinders of 5.5 kg and 12 kg LPG arrived in the NTT region on 23 April. On 29 April, he added, a ship carrying 2,434 cylinders of 5.5 kg and 12 kg LPG will arrive.
Previously, residents complained about LPG shortages in Labuan Bajo. In addition to being scarce, the prices have also skyrocketed.
A housewife in Labuan Bajo, Rin, said that the LPG shortage in the super-priority tourism destination has been ongoing for the past few weeks. Even now, the price of 12 kg LPG has exceeded Rp 330,000.
“The 12 kg LPG price is Rp 330,000. Whereas previously it was Rp 290,000,” said Rin on Saturday (25/4/2026).
Rin admitted that she had to wait several days to get a 12 kg LPG cylinder. “I went around to shops but they were all out. I had to wait a few days to get it,” she added.
Dhenia Anisa shares the same sentiment. The culinary business owner in Labuan Bajo also confirmed the LPG shortage there. According to her, the condition has been happening since last month. “The shortage started last month. Yesterday it was difficult but I could still get it. Yesterday I got it for Rp 320,000,” said Dhenia.
