LPDP Simplifies English Language Requirements for Second Phase of Scholarships

The government, through the Education Fund Management Institution (LPDP), has simplified the selection requirements for the second phase of the 2026 LPDP Scholarship programme by easing English language proficiency rules to broaden public access to the programme. “What is different about this second phase of the LPDP scholarship selection is that the requirements have been made easier, particularly the English language requirements,” said LPDP Head of Communication Sub-Division Risqi Sita Novanti during a discussion at the Jakarta Kreatif Festival on Sunday. Risqi explained that previously, applicants targeting domestic universities were required to submit an English proficiency certificate from specific institutions, but the government now recognises a wider range of certificates. “In the past, even for domestic study, you had to submit an English certificate. Now, 35 types of English certificates from domestic universities are also recognised,” she said. Additionally, applicants who already hold an unconditional Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from their intended university are no longer required to upload an English proficiency certificate. “For holders of an unconditional Letter of Acceptance from a university, they no longer need to submit the English language requirement. This applies to both domestic and overseas universities,” she stated. According to Risqi, the simplification is intended to make the selection process easier without reducing the quality of scholarship recipients. The selection stages remain unchanged, consisting of administrative selection, scholastic aptitude selection, and substantive selection. The government hopes this policy will attract more high-quality applicants who were previously hindered by administrative requirements. Risqi also invited the public who need more detailed information to consult directly with officers or through LPDP’s official channels.
