Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Director of the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP), Sudarto, revealed that four alumni have returned scholarship funds because they were found to have not fulfilled their obligation to serve in Indonesia.

Each of the alumni returned funds of around IDR 2 billion, which includes recipients of scholarships for master’s and PhD education both domestically and abroad.

“Yes, approximately IDR 2 billion per person for those with PhDs, and those with master’s degrees returned under IDR 1-2 billion. Those who have paid are both from domestic and overseas,” said Sudarto during a media briefing on Wednesday evening (25/2/2026).

As previously known, the LPDP had conducted an investigation into 600 awardees suspected of violating regulations. Based on the investigation, 307 awardees had obtained permission to continue internships or further studies, while 172 people worked in accordance with LPDP regulations, and 36 others are still under investigation.

Meanwhile, eight people were found to have not fulfilled their obligation to serve in Indonesia.

“Currently, we are still investigating 36 people, including those who went viral. This is a momentum for us to improve both the accuracy and the system, as well as the criteria for contribution,” he said.
