LPDP Jakarta Set to Launch Soon, New Scholarship Option for Capital Residents

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) will soon launch a new scholarship programme named LPDP Jakarta. This programme serves as an additional option for the capital’s residents who wish to pursue higher education. The LPDP Jakarta concept is similar to the national Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan (LPDP) programme. However, this one is specifically for Jakarta residents and adapted to the region’s needs. “If this can be realised, I think it is very good to provide opportunities for Jakarta’s children or students to study abroad using LPDP Jakarta,” stated Pramono when met at the East Jakarta Mayor’s office on Tuesday (5/5/2026). In its implementation, Pemprov DKI Jakarta will collaborate with the central government. Pramono acknowledged that if LPDP Jakarta were managed entirely independently, the process of establishing the scholarship system would take a long time. “So the funds available are certainly those managed by the DKI Jakarta Government, but because managing an LPDP apparently takes time, it requires a long time, so we are collaborating with the Central LPDP,” said Pramono. Although partnering with the central LPDP, Pemprov DKI Jakarta will retain full control in determining who is eligible for the scholarship. From candidate selection, determination of destination universities, to the majors taken, all will be decided by the local government. “But for determining students, universities, majors, and so on, the DKI Jakarta Government will decide,” Pramono said. Through this collaboration scheme, LPDP Jakarta can operate soon and help more residents continue their education.
