LPDP Explains the Mechanism for Repaying Scholarship Funds
The Director General of the Education Fund Management Agency (LPDP), Sudarto, said that the process of recovering scholarship funds from all awardees who violate the rules will be carried out in accordance with the state receivables mechanism.
Sudarto said that the LPDP is currently calculating the total funds spent since 2015/2016 on the husband of Dwi Sasetningtyas, who went viral because of content about her child becoming a foreign citizen. This amount will then be the basis for the claim.
“We will calculate the total money that has been spent since 2015/2016,” said Sudarto in a media briefing about the LPDP at the Directorate General of Fiscal Balance, Jakarta, Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
He explained that administrative sanctions will be carried out in stages. The LPDP will first issue warning letter 1, warning letter 2, and then warning letter 3 to the person concerned. If, after three warnings, the obligation to repay the funds is not fulfilled, the matter will be handed over to the Directorate General of State Assets (DJKN) for further collection.
“If it is still not paid, we will hand it over to the DJKN because this is a matter of public interest and state money,” he said.
Sudarto emphasized that LPDP funds are state funds that must be accounted for. Therefore, every violation of the scholarship provisions, including the obligations set out in the contract, will be processed in accordance with applicable regulations.
This case emerged after an LPDP alumnus and influencer, Dwi Sasetyaningtyas, showed off her child’s British passport on social media. This sparked public debate about the obligation to contribute to the state.
The LPDP stated that it will take administrative and legal action in accordance with the provisions to ensure accountability in the management of these education funds.
