LPDB Encourages TLM Savings and Loan Cooperative to Develop KDKMP in Eastern Indonesia
The Tanaoba Lais Manekat (TLM) Savings and Loan Cooperative is acting as a mentor for the Merah Putih Village/Sub-district Cooperatives (KDKMP) across various regions in Eastern Indonesia. This role demonstrates a transformation of cooperatives, moving beyond mere business entities to become a mutually reinforcing ecosystem.
This mentorship model serves as evidence that cooperatives are no longer operating in isolation, but are growing through collaboration and mutual cooperation between cooperatives, supported by the government and financing institutions.
The Minister of Cooperatives of the Republic of Indonesia, Ferry Juliantono, emphasised that the ‘big brother’ approach is a vital strategy to accelerate the strengthening of KDKMP throughout Indonesia.
“I have instructed LPDB and the Tanaoba Lais Manekat Savings and Loan Cooperative to work together to assist in developing cooperative businesses at the village and sub-district levels, ranging from expanding businesses to strengthening capital financing. This is essential so that cooperatives truly become a new economic force for the community,” Ferry stated in his remarks on Thursday (10/09/2026).
He also emphasised that the presence of KDKMP is not merely a programme, but an instrument to transform rural communities into active economic actors through tangible access to capital.
With impressive performance and assets that have grown to exceed Rp1.2 trillion, the Tanaoba Lais Manekat Savings and Loan Cooperative has moved beyond simple savings and loan services. The cooperative is undergoing a transformation through business diversification in the real sector, strengthening distribution networks, and providing guidance to new cooperatives at the village and sub-district levels.
Mentoring the KDKMP Manulai II in Kupang serves as a concrete example. Through a business collaboration scheme, the cooperative assists in product provision, consignment systems, and strengthening the business capacity of its members. The impact is already visible through increased economic activity and the growing turnover potential of the cooperative.
The Business Director of LPDB Koperasi, Oetje Koesoema Prasetia, affirmed that LPDB is present to strengthen partnership patterns between cooperatives as part of the national strategy for developing an ecosystem-based cooperative system.
“What the Tanaoba Lais Manekat Savings and Loan Cooperative is doing shows that a strong cooperative can serve as a locomotive for other cooperatives at the grassroots level. LPDB Koperasi is here to strengthen that role through integrated and sustainable financing support,” said Oetje.
He added that synergy between LPDB, large cooperatives, and support from local governments will be key to building an inclusive financing system.
“In line with the Minister of Cooperatives’ directives, we are encouraging collaborative financing between LPDB, cooperatives, and banks through joint financing schemes. In this way, village and sub-district cooperatives will not only grow but also possess long-term resilience and competitiveness,” Oetje explained.
The KDKMP programme, which has now been established in tens of thousands of villages, represents a significant milestone in restoring cooperatives as a pillar of the national economy. Through financing support, mentoring, and the presence of mentors like the Tanaoba Lais Manekat Savings and Loan Cooperative, village-level cooperatives are expected to develop into economic hubs, ranging from goods distribution and production processing to the enhancement of community welfare. This collaboration serves as a strong foundation for the emergence of a modern Indonesian cooperative ecosystem: inclusive, productive, and sustainable.
