The credit union movement is considered to have a strategic position to become the driving force for strengthening the national cooperative ecosystem, including supporting the success of the Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih programme currently being developed by the government. Therefore, credit unions are encouraged not only to focus on asset and business growth, but also to take a greater role in strengthening governance, member education, and community economic empowerment. This message was delivered by the President Director of the Revolving Fund Management Agency (LPDB) for Cooperatives, Krisdianto, while opening the 2025 Financial Year Annual Members’ Meeting (RAT) of the National Federation of Credit Unions (INKOPDIT) in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara. The event, themed ‘Re-Ideologisation, Transformation, and Resilience of the Indonesian Credit Union Movement Towards 2070’, was attended by around 500 participants consisting of board members, supervisors, management, and delegates from 34 Credit Union Centres (Puskopdit) from across Indonesia. In addition to the RAT, the event was also coupled with an Open Forum, National Seminar, Educational Tour, Member Business Product Exhibition, and Cultural Festival. Representing the Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono, Krisdianto expressed high appreciation to the Indonesian credit union movement, which for decades has been one of the important pillars of strengthening the people’s economy. According to him, credit unions have proven capable of building member independence through a healthy and sustainable mutual-aid based financial system. ‘The Minister of Cooperatives actually very much wanted to be present with all Indonesian credit union members. He even specifically conveyed his commitment to continue supporting the development of the credit union movement, which has so far shown a real contribution to the community’s economic development,’ said Krisdianto. He revealed that the Minister of Cooperatives has a very positive impression of the development of cooperatives in East Nusa Tenggara. Based on various working visits conducted, NTT is considered one of the provinces with the best cooperative development in Indonesia.
