Loyal Since Day One: 70 Legend Gojek Driver Partners Depart for Umrah
The commemoration of the Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday (Maulid Nabi) became an emotional moment for Gojek driver partners. During this observance, a joint prayer session was held to send off 70 Gojek driver partners who are departing for the Umrah pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
As a form of appreciation for driver partners who have been part of the platform since Gojek was established in 2010, Gojek is sponsoring the trip to the Holy Land free of charge. These ‘Legend Driver’ partners are those who helped pave the way for Gojek’s growth, from its early days operating as a call centre to its current status as Indonesia’s largest digital ecosystem.
The preparations for the Legend Drivers’ departure received a surprise visit from the Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi. Attending the send-off, Dudy offered prayers for the smooth execution of the pilgrimage and for Indonesia amidst various natural disasters.
“I hope initiatives like this can inspire more parties to introduce similar programmes that provide real benefits for the welfare of Driver Partners,” said Dudy on Friday (28/8/2028) in Kemang Timur, Jakarta.
In addition to Dudy, religious leader Habib Ja’far Al Hadar was present to lead the joint prayer. While praying for the 70 Legend Drivers, Habib Ja’far also encouraged the hundreds of Gojek driver partners in attendance to emulate the character of the Prophet Muhammad through honest, trustworthy, and beneficial work. He reminded them that every effort made with good intentions brings blessings.
“In the past, there was the soap opera story of the Porridge Seller Going to Hajj; now, it is the Motorcycle Taxi Driver Going to Hajj. God willing, since Umrah is a ‘minor Hajj’,” Habib Ja’far remarked jokingly.
Maryono, one of the Legend Drivers departing for Umrah, expressed pride in the dedication he has provided over the years. Maryono could not contain his emotion when Gojek recognised his long-term commitment by sponsoring his trip to the Holy Land.
“Even tonight, I can already imagine it. I am already imagining being there, wondering what I will do and what I will pray for. I am 50 years old, and it is hard for me to even dream of such a thing. But Alhamdulillah, thanks to Gojek, I can go there,” said Maryono.
The departure of the Legend Drivers is part of Gojek’s Partner Appreciation Programme (PAM). This programme offers various benefits, ranging from BPJS Healthcare and BPJS Employment insurance, Eid bonuses, and educational scholarships for children to school supplies, Swadaya points, internet data, and various forms of recognition based on the drivers’ journeys and contributions.
Head of Driver Operations at Gojek, Bambang AW, revealed that every partner has an equal opportunity to receive benefits from the PAM programme. Benefits are distributed based on partner categories determined by performance and dedication.
“Everyone will have the same opportunity. For other partners who wish to go on Umrah, they can do so by following the stages within the partner appreciation programme. What we look at is the consistency and performance of the partner,” said Bambang.
