Low-Cost Market Drive to Curb Inflation in Toba
To curb inflation ahead of the national religious holidays during Ramadan, the Toba Regency Government has again organised a cheap market drive (GPM) in Uluan District, Toba Regency. It had previously been conducted in several districts. The acting Secretary of the Toba Regency, Paber Napitupulu, said the GPM was held as part of efforts to control inflation ahead of HBKN – the holy month of Ramadan and the upcoming Eid al-Fitr 1447 H.
‘As we approach these major religious days, we often face price increases for staple goods due to rising demand,’ Paber said on Friday 6 March. ‘Therefore, the Toba Regency is present through this cheap market drive as a concrete step to stabilise prices and ensure the availability of staple foods at more affordable prices,’ he added. He hopes inflation in Toba remains controlled and purchasing power preserved. ‘This is the main key to maintaining economic stability in our region. Through this cheap market drive, we hope inflation in Toba remains controlled, the public’s purchasing power is preserved, and our fellow citizens can observe Ramadan with peace and joy and celebrate Eid al-Fitr calmly and happily. May all our efforts be a good deed and bring blessings to the beloved Toba Regency,’ Paber said.
In the GPM, five commodities were available, including SPHP rice in 5-kilogram packaging at Rp 56,500; granulated sugar at Rp 15,000 per kilogram; cooking oil at Rp 13,000 per litre; eggs at Rp 48,000 per tray; and flour at Rp 8,000 per kilogram. (H-3)
