Observing the development of the ongoing monetary crisis, I,
as an Indonesian citizen, wish to propose the following:
1. Consolidate the Love Rupiah National Drive, a program
initiated by one of our national entrepreneurs and worthy of our
support.
2. In the implementation of the drive, government officials,
businessmen, the community/laymen, the press and, non-
governmental organizations must sincerely and solidly unify their
action.
3. It is necessary to involve national (general election)
campaigners, ulemas, spokespersons of government and national
private institutions to disseminate reports on this campaign to
the community so that they will not only be spurred to
participate but also be able to dispel their fear/panic and be
willing to participate in coping with this monetary crisis. We
should take as our model the South Koreans' efforts to stabilize
their currency.
4. In the application of our five-point national philosophy of
Pancasila, it is necessary for us to demonstrate our solidarity
by actively participating in the Love Rupiah National Drive with
a view to ensuring that stability in our national economy will
not be a mere slogan but a reality. As manifestation of our
nationalism, which is based on Pancasila, we must readily sell
all our U.S. dollars so that our local currency will be the only
legal tender in transactions and at the same time bolster our
pride.
5. Monetary turmoil shows a crisis of confidence on the part of
the community because of a confusing flow of information received
by the community. Therefore, this drive must not be linked too
much with political or other seemingly made up matters.
6. It is necessary for us to be aware that monetary stability is
in the interest of the Indonesian nation as a whole and therefore
the Love Rupiah National Drive is our common responsibility.
7. This drive must be carried out without delay. It must be
implemented with just what we have at our disposal right now
because we can do it at least with our deep love for the
Indonesian nation and state.
May, in this month full of blessings, we be able to
immediately solve our monetary problems so that the value of the
rupiah will gain strength and stability and may, also, my beloved
Indonesia be bathed in glory.
