Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has announced that a ‘Gembok Cinta’ (Love Lock) bridge will be built over the Cideng River in the Kuningan area of South Jakarta. The structure is part of the broader revitalisation of Jalan Hajjah Rangkayo (HR) Rasuna Said.

‘In the arrangement of HR Rasuna Said, there is the Cideng River, and a small bridge will be built over it,’ Pramono said in Jakarta on Saturday. He envisions three or four small bridges at the location, where couples can attach padlocks as a symbol of their affection. ‘Those with partners will come there, install a lock, and it will become colourful,’ he added.

Pramono noted that the site is also near the newly inaugurated Halte Integritas, located in front of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) building. ‘Jakartans will come there with their partners and install locks at the location,’ he said, clarifying that the love locks would not be placed on a pedestrian overpass (JPO), but on the small bridges to be built over the Cideng River.

He expressed optimism that the newly completed HR Rasuna Said road arrangement, inaugurated on the same day, would become a new icon for the capital. ‘I am confident this road will become a new landmark for Jakarta because everyone can see it is now much more organised and neater, and at the end, there are specially installed orchids,’ Pramono said. The 3.8-kilometre HR Rasuna Said road arrangement project, which included pavement improvements, the dismantling of 109 monorail pillars, and elevation adjustments between express and slow lanes, cost approximately Rp91 billion.
