Direct experience within an industrial environment serves as a vital supplement for engineering students before they enter the workforce. Through industrial visits, students can understand how theories learned in the classroom are applied to production processes, occupational safety, and corporate operational management.

As part of an effort to strengthen this experience, PT Lotte Chemical Indonesia (LCI) hosted 50 students from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers at the University of Indonesia (AiChE UI) at the company’s operational area in Cilegon, Banten. This company visit provided an overview of petrochemical industry operational processes, safety culture, and the role of the petrochemical industry in supporting the national industrial supply chain.

During the visit, students participated in company introduction sessions, interactive discussions with LCI representatives, and a site tour to observe the working environment and operational processes within the company’s facilities firsthand.

Lotte Chemical Indonesia President Director, Yim Dong Hee, stated that collaboration between universities and industry is necessary to prepare human resources capable of meeting the needs of the industrial sector in the future.

“We believe that synergy between higher education and industry is key to producing a younger generation ready to face an increasingly complex and dynamic world. We hope this activity can provide practical experience and insight for students, while simultaneously encouraging the emergence of a young generation ready to contribute to the industry in the future,” Yim said in a press release on Friday.

According to LCI, activities such as company visits also serve as a means to introduce the importance of occupational safety, innovation, sustainability, and operational governance within the petrochemical industry. The company stated it will continue to establish partnerships with universities as an effort to support human resource development and strengthen the competitiveness of the national petrochemical industry.

Vice President of AiChE UI, Rasiendriya Sajna Rafi Nugroho, noted that the visit provided beneficial experience in understanding the application of chemical engineering in the industrial world.

“Through this visit, we can see directly how the chemical engineering knowledge studied on campus is applied in the petrochemical industry. This activity also helps us understand industrial processes more comprehensively, ranging from operations and supply chains to the importance of human resource readiness in the professional world,” said Rasien.
