Beyond serving as proof of legal driving status, the SIM is also essential during traffic checks on the road.

However, vehicle owners often lose their SIM due to misplacement, stolen wallets, or other reasons.

In such cases, there is no need for concern; lost SIMs can be reissued without having to apply for a new one from scratch.

AKBP Prianggo Malau, Sub-Director of Registration at the Central Java Police Traffic Directorate, stated that lost SIMs can be reissued.

However, Article 9 paragraph 3(b) of Police Regulation No. 2 of 2023 requires a police report of loss to be submitted for reissuance.

‘Based on Police Regulation No. 2 of 2023, Article 9 paragraph 3(b), lost SIMs can be reissued upon submission of a police loss report receipt,’ Prianggo told Kompas.com recently.

The police report is required as proof that the applicant previously held a SIM and that its validity period is still active.

Reissuing a lost SIM can be done at any traffic police office (Satpas) without needing to return to the original issuing city.
