Lost baggage

From Suara Pembaruan

I would like to relate my experience, flying Singapore
Airlines (SQ 017) from Vancouver to Singapore on May 30, 1994 and
the next flight (SQ 154) to Jakarta on June 1, 1994.

I took two pieces of luggage with me on those flights. When I
arrived at Soekarno-Hatta airport I could not find my luggage
with tag No BAH CGKSQ25089. I contacted Singapore Airlines in
Vancouver immediately, and was told that my luggage was sent on
the same flight. The luggage has still not been found.

What is more surprising is that I had another mishap on my
second journey from Toronto to Jakarta, with a transit in Korea.
I also had two pieces of luggage with me. From Toronto I flew Air
Canada flight No AC 899 on Oct. 29, 1994, and from Korea to
Jakarta I flew Korean Air flight No KE 627 on Oct. 31, 1994.
Again I could not find my luggage, No AC518345 on arrival at
Soekarno-Hatta in Jakarta. I contacted Korean Air in Jakarta
several times to inquire about my lost baggage, but they could
not find it.

I cannot help wondering about the bad luck that has befallen
me -- twice. I am sure the same thing also happens to other
passengers. Reports in the media often relate that irresponsible
persons in the Soekarno-Hatta airport cause the loss of the
passengers' luggage.

These sorts of incidents will surely hinder the government's
effort to promote tourism, a very potential sector for earning
foreign exchange.

I hope the authorities will do something about it, and I also
await explanation from the airport authority concerning my lost
baggage.
