Losses from fire on three vessels in Muara Angke reach Rp1.5 billion

The North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Fire and Rescue Sub-Department (Gulkarmat) estimates that losses from a fire involving three vessels docked at Muara Angke Pier, Pluit District, North Jakarta, on Sunday morning reached Rp1.5 billion. “The estimated loss from the fire on the three vessels owned by H Samang is around Rp1.5 billion,” said Gatot Sulaeman, Head of Operations for North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Gulkarmat, in Jakarta on Sunday. He stated that the total area of the objects that caught fire was 343 square metres, with one vessel measuring 114 square metres. The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit. Gulkarmat deployed 65 firefighters who struggled to extinguish the towering flames that engulfed the docked vessels. “There were 12 fire engines deployed to put out the fire,” Gatot said. The fire was only successfully extinguished after three hours of firefighting. The flames began to be contained and suppression was carried out at 10:08 a.m. Western Indonesian Time, and the fire was finally confirmed to be completely out at 11:52 a.m. Western Indonesian Time. According to witness accounts, they saw plumes of smoke coming from a vessel that was undergoing repairs or docking at the location. The witnesses then tried to seek help from residents around the area. However, the fire grew larger and they requested assistance from the fire department. “A total of three vessels were burned,” Gatot stated.
