Lorry Snags Pedestrian Bridge, Police Advise Avoiding Jalan Tendean Towards Blok M

Police are advising motorists to avoid the section of Jalan Kapten P Tendean in Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta, heading towards Blok M, following an incident where a crane-carrying lorry struck a pedestrian bridge (JPO).

South Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Unit Head Kompol Mujiyanto stated that the road remains passable for vehicles, but drivers are urged to use alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion. “We advise avoiding Jalan Tendean and seeking alternatives, because it is still open to accommodate traffic; a full diversion would not be able to handle the volume. It is still passable, but there is a bottleneck as the previous two lanes have been reduced to one,” Mujiyanto said on Tuesday (14/7).

Mujiyanto added that personnel have been deployed to assist with traffic management at the scene. He noted that the evacuation process is pending the arrival of the DKI Jakarta Bina Marga Agency, as the pedestrian bridge is tilted and nearly collapsed due to the impact. “We will coordinate with Bina Marga because the JPO belongs to them; we need to determine what must be done first, and Bina Marga officials are on their way,” he said.

Mujiyanto stated the incident is suspected to have occurred because the crane-carrying lorry went out of control, though investigations are ongoing. “The exact chronology is uncertain because the JPO was not snagged previously; perhaps the vehicle went out of control and got caught on top, as we do not yet know the height clearance,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Kabagbinopsnal of the Metro Jaya Regional Police Traffic Directorate Kompol Robby Hefados also urged motorists to avoid Jalan Kapten P Tendean towards Blok M. “The public is advised to avoid Jalan Kapten Tendean and use alternative routes, including Jalan HR Rasuna Said, Jalan Gatot Subroto, Jalan Kemang Raya, and Jalan Antasari,” he said.
