Lorry Overturns on Tomang Flyover, Construction Iron Falls Again During Evacuation
The evacuation of a lorry that overturned on the Tomang Flyover in West Jakarta on Wednesday (24/6) afternoon encountered difficulties after part of its construction iron load fell back onto Jalan Arteri S Parman while being lifted by a crane. Based on observations at the location around 10.55 a.m. Western Indonesia Time, officers were relocating the construction iron materials that had previously spilled due to the lorry accident on the Tomang Flyover. A number of iron pieces on the side of the flyover were being evacuated using a crane, while the flyover’s guardrail appeared damaged and broken as a result of the incident. However, during the lifting process, several pieces of construction iron slipped from the crane’s grip and fell towards Jalan Arteri S Parman. Fortunately, there were no fatalities or injuries in the incident. To ensure the safety of road users, police temporarily closed traffic flow from the Slipi direction towards Grogol during the evacuation process. Until around 12.00 p.m. Western Indonesia Time, vehicle congestion persisted in the Jalan S Parman area towards Slipi. The traffic jam was triggered by the temporary closure of the toll road access to facilitate the evacuation of the lorry and its scattered load at the scene. As a result, all vehicles were diverted through the Jalan S Parman arterial route. Similar conditions also occurred from the opposite direction because one lane towards Grogol Petamburan remained blocked by construction iron materials that had fallen from the flyover. The incident began in the early hours of Wednesday at around 4.30 a.m. Western Indonesia Time. A lorry transporting construction iron travelling from the Jakarta–Tangerang Toll Road towards Tanjung Priok was reported to have overturned on the Tomang Flyover. West Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Unit Head, Kompol Reza Hafiz Gumilang, explained that part of the lorry’s load fell onto the road below the flyover, disrupting traffic flow in the area. Although there were no casualties, dozens of tonnes of iron material scattered on the road caused significant traffic disruption. Officers then implemented traffic engineering by diverting vehicles that usually pass through the flyover lane to the lower lane or towards the Tomang Traffic Light. Meanwhile, West Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Unit KBO, AKP Sudarmo, revealed that the accident was suspected to have occurred after the load’s securing straps suffered damage and snapped. Consequently, the construction iron load shifted and spilled, blocking part of the Kebon Jeruk Toll Road towards Grogol and the Tomang Flyover arterial lane towards Grogol. From field observations in the morning, the toll road guardrail appeared to have suffered severe damage after being struck by the iron material. Piles of construction iron were also still visible covering part of the Kebon Jeruk Toll Road towards Grogol and the Tomang Flyover arterial lane, as clearance and evacuation efforts continued to be carried out by officers.
