Looting of logistics in Aceh

In a discussion with Asmara Diah Saputra on Jan. 7, Radio 68H
focused attention on the looting of logistics sent to Aceh to
help tsunami victims.

Asmara drew attention to the cruelty of members of the
separatist Free Aceh Movement (GAM), despite measures taken by
the Indonesian Military to prevent the relief aid from being
stolen by GAM members, and to chase as well as catch the looters.

It is difficult to understand why GAM members have looted the
logistics intended for their fellow Acehnese simply in pursuit of
their own interests.

After the tsunami disaster, the military has launched a large-
scale attack against GAM members, among others in Matang Ulin,
North Aceh, although there are refugees in this area. At least
100 members of the military took part in this attack, which was
expected to prevent more looting by GAM
members.
