Looking Towards the 2029 Election, Jokowi Urges PSI to Transform Organisational Work Methods
The 7th President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), has called upon all cadres of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) to transform the organisation’s working methods in preparation for the 2029 General Election. Jokowi emphasised that the strength of a political party should not merely be built on paper or administrative formalities, but must be proven through the functional presence of cadres within society. This message was delivered by Jokowi during a briefing at the Regional Coordination Meeting (Rakorda) of the PSI Regional Leadership Council (DPD) in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Saturday (1/8).
“It is useless to exist only as a formality. It is useless to have a structure if it only exists to obtain official decrees. Instead, we need a functional structure, a living and working structure, and a structure that is actively engaged daily in the lives of our people,” Jokowi stated in Kupang. Jokowi explained that the primary key to PSI’s victory in the upcoming 2029 election lies in the successful construction of solid party infrastructure down to the lowest levels, specifically at the village and Polling Station (TPS) levels. He urged the Central Leadership Board (DPP) and regional branches to ensure that every official at the grassroots level performs their political functions continuously.
Furthermore, Jokowi reminded cadres that relationships with the community should not be built solely in anticipation of political contests. He requested PSI cadres to remain present and actively involved in citizens’ social activities, both during times of prosperity and when the community faces hardships. This approach is considered a crucial strategy for naturally building public trust and strengthening the support base for the elephant-logo party in the future. Jokowi noted that the solid presence of cadres in the Kupang regional meeting, as well as in other regions such as Lampung, serves as a strong indicator of the party’s growth potential.
