JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has reported that Bandung and various cities in West Java were major attractions for travellers during this long weekend.

Vice President of Corporate Communication at KAI, Anne Purba, stated that the high mobility of people in West Java during the long weekend is also reflected in the increased use of local train services.

“During the period of 13–16 May 2026, as many as 208,942 passengers used local train services in the Daop 2 Bandung area, including the Bandung Raya Commuter Line and the Garut Commuter Line,” Anne said in an official statement on Sunday (17/5/2026).

The high volume of local travel indicates that activity among communities in the Greater Bandung and Garut areas remained active during the long weekend, whether for tourism, visiting family, or daily commuting.

Increased mobility was also observed in the Whoosh high-speed train service. Over the four days from 13–16 May 2026, as many as 75,097 passengers used the Whoosh service.

“This number represents an increase of 17.80 percent compared to the period of 6–9 May 2026, which recorded 63,748 passengers,” she said.

Anne added that amid the high volume of vehicles heading to Bandung, reaching 87,918 vehicles on Friday (15/5/2026), trains became one of the preferred modes of transport for people travelling to Bandung, offering a more predictable and comfortable journey during the long weekend.

“KAI recorded high passenger mobility in the Daop 2 Bandung operational area during the long weekend period of 13–17 May 2026,” said Anne.

“As of Saturday, 17 May 2026 at 10:00 AM, as many as 91,678 passengers on long-distance trains were recorded departing from various stations in the Daop 2 Bandung area, starting from Purwakarta to Banjar,” Anne continued.

As of preliminary data up to 17 May 2026 at 10:00 AM, as many as 18,006 passengers had used and will use the Parahyangan train during the long weekend period.

In addition to the Parahyangan train, several other long-distance trains serving passengers at Bandung Station also recorded high volumes, including the Papandayan, Argo Wilis, Malabar, Sangkuriang, Lodaya, Ciremai, and Harina trains.

The high mobility was also evident in the most popular routes to Bandung.
