REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded that during the first two days of the long weekend travel period, the number of passengers continued to exceed 196,000 per day. On Wednesday, May 13, 2026, KAI served 196,370 passengers, then increased on Thursday, May 14, 2026 to 197,333 passengers.

“In total, during the first two days of departure, KAI has served 393,703 passengers on both long-distance and local trains operated by KAI,” said Vice President of Corporate Communication at KAI, Anne Purba, in a written statement in Jakarta, Friday (May 15, 2026).

Anne said that cumulatively, KAI ticket sales for the departure period of May 13-17, 2026 had reached 778,318 tickets as of Friday, May 15, 2026 at 10:00 AM. This number still has the potential to increase as ticket sales continue through the Access by KAI application, station ticket counters, and various other official channels.

“The high mobility of the community at the beginning of the long weekend shows that trains remain the primary choice for medium and long-distance travel,” said Anne.

Anne said that the travel patterns during the long weekend showed high mobility of people towards tourist cities and areas with high social activity. She said that trains are a popular choice because they offer more efficient and comfortable travel, and are directly connected to various destination cities.

“KAI also recorded several favorite routes for passengers during the long weekend period,” Anne continued.

Anne said that routes to Yogyakarta, Bandung, Semarang, and Surabaya were the most popular because they are directly connected to tourist areas, culinary centers, historical areas, and bustling creative economic centers that are often visited during long holidays. She said that trips from and to Yogyakarta are a popular choice for many passengers to enjoy the Malioboro area, the Yogyakarta Palace, and various natural destinations in the surrounding area.

Meanwhile, Bandung remains popular for its culinary tourism, cool mountain air, and rapidly developing creative economic activities. Anne said that routes to Semarang are also busy because they are connected to the Kota Lama area, historical tourism, and the trading center in Central Java.

“The increase in passenger mobility during the long holidays also drives economic activity in various regions,” said Anne.
