Long Weekend Idul Adha Sees Gilimanuk Vehicle Queues Stretch 2.7km

A surge in vehicles leaving Bali during the Idul Adha 1447 Hijriyah holiday and Pancasila Day long weekend caused lengthy queues at Gilimanuk Port in Jembrana, Bali, on Wednesday (27 May 2026). The vehicle queues, predominantly consisting of logistics trucks, stretched up to 2.7 kilometres from the port area. detikBali’s observations at around 12:00 WITA showed vehicle queues extending to the front of the Cekik Vehicle Weight Checking Unit (UPPKB) office. Traffic congestion prompted police to implement traffic management by diverting some vehicles to residential roads. Jembrana Police Chief AKBP Kadek Citra Dewi Suparwati stated that the diversion scheme had been implemented a day earlier, but only became effective in the afternoon. “The residential road diversion scheme was initiated yesterday, but only became effective this afternoon. Currently, only Gang Dua is being used,” Citra told detikBali on Wednesday. Citra said the alternative route diversion was to disperse vehicles congested on the main Denpasar-Gilimanuk road. She also urged all road users to cooperate and follow on-site officers’ instructions to ease traffic. “We hope the situation remains safe and smooth during this Idul Adha homecoming and return period,” she added. Private Cars Diverted to Residential Alleys Gilimanuk Village Head Ida Bagus Tony Wirahadikusuma confirmed a significant increase in vehicle volume in his area. Although residential routes were opened as alternatives, not all vehicles were permitted to use them. “Only four-wheeled private cars are allowed on residential roads. Trucks and buses must continue using the main Denpasar-Gilimanuk route,” Tony stressed. He also reminded travelers to maintain cleanliness while passing through Gilimanuk, especially during long queues. “We urge all travelers to keep the area clean. Please dispose of waste properly and avoid littering from vehicles,” he added.
