Long Weekend Departure Peak Sees 176,967 Rail Passengers Across Java and Sumatra
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has recorded high public enthusiasm for train travel during the extended holiday period for Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah and Pancasila Day. As of 10:00 WIB on Tuesday, 26 May 2026, 176,967 passengers are projected to travel by rail across Java and Sumatra today. The figure continues to rise as ticket sales proceed via the Access by KAI app and other official channels.
Anne Purba, Vice President of Corporate Communication at KAI, said the proximity of the national holidays for Eid al-Adha and Pancasila Day has boosted public mobility for family trips, tourism, and returning to hometowns.
“Rail travel during this long weekend shows strong public enthusiasm, particularly towards popular destinations such as Yogyakarta, Bandung, Semarang, and other locations across Java and Sumatra. Many passengers are using trains for a more comfortable and convenient holiday experience,” Anne said.
Cumulative ticket sales for the period 26 May to 1 June 2026 reached 783,399 as of 10:00 WIB on Tuesday, 26 May 2026, with numbers expected to rise further before departure.

29 May 2026: 92,643 passengers
30 May 2026: 105,637 passengers

Several routes are popular during the extended holiday, with the Gambir–Yogyakarta line recording the highest number of passengers at 12,778, followed by Yogyakarta–Gambir with 11,790. Journeys to Yogyakarta, Semarang, Bandung, and Sukabumi dominate passenger choices.

Anne added that tickets remain available for some journeys, urging the public to plan trips early and book via the Access by KAI app or other official channels for a more comfortable and well-organised journey.
“KAI encourages the public to travel safely and comfortably by train during the extended holiday, advising passengers to arrive at stations in good time and double-check departure schedules before travelling,” she concluded.
