Jakarta (ANTARA) - General Chairman of the All-Indonesia Athletics Association (PB PASI) Luhut Binsar Panjaitan said government support for long-term national training camps (pelatnas) is a strong foundation for building national sporting achievement. “So far, athletes and federations have often faced limitations due to administrative regulations and annual planning cycles,” Luhut said in an official statement from the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Jakarta on Monday. The long-term training camp budget support was confirmed by Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir after meeting with President Prabowo in Hambalang on Friday (19/6). The President instructed that athlete preparation for various international multi-events be carried out through long-term planning supported by sustainable funding and strengthening of early-age development systems through the National Sports Academy. Luhut said President Prabowo’s strategic move proves the government is not only focused on medal targets, but also on building a strong foundation for the future of Indonesian sporting achievement. “World champion athletes are not born in one competition season,” he said. He explained that the journey of talented young athletes to compete at the world level requires a long time and a process that is not easy. According to him, the new scheme from the government is a turning point for the revival of national sports because it presents more effective, professional, modern governance oriented towards long-term achievement. Luhut also stressed the importance of cross-sector collaboration and with the business world to expand opportunities for athletes to gain competitive experience.
