Long queues at gas stations

JAKARTA (JP): Many gas stations reopened yesterday after closing on Thursday when rioting spread throughout the city.

Long queues of vehicles were seen at gas stations along Jl. Daan Mogot in West Jakarta; and Senen, Kwitang, Jl. Agus Salim, Pecenongan and Menteng in Central Jakarta.

The rioting that started on Tuesday following the killing of three Trisakti University students forced most gas stations, especially those in West Jakarta, to close.

When the riot broke out on Tuesday afternoon, two gas stations near the university were looted and burned down.

Many people filled up their motorcycles and cars yesterday in anticipation of a disrupted supply due to continuing violence.

"I'm afraid gas stations will close again if the riots continue," a motorist said. (pan)
