Long Queues at Gambir Station as Ticket Refunds Follow Train Accident
Several long-distance train journeys from Gambir Station in Central Jakarta were cancelled today. Queues of passengers unable to depart snaked through the station lobby.
Observations by detikcom at Gambir Station on Tuesday (28/4/2026) showed crowds from early morning. Several passengers said they travelled to the station because they had not received information about the ticket cancellations.
Queues of passengers were seen lining up at the direct ticket sales counters in the station lobby. Several staff members were on hand to provide information about cancellations and departures to passengers.
One passenger on the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek to Semarang, Ardie, said he was supposed to depart around 08:20 WIB. However, Ardie had not received information about the cancellation of his journey.
“So this morning I was supposed to take the Argo Bromo Anggrek train at 08:20 WIB and I checked on Instagram that my train wasn’t one of the cancelled ones,” said Ardie when met.
However, upon arriving at the station since 7 a.m., Ardie only learned that the train he was to board had been cancelled due to the accident in East Bekasi.
“But when I got here, it turned out my train was one of the cancelled ones,” he said.
“If anything, I didn’t get clear information earlier. I mean, it’s probably still related to what happened last night,” Ardie continued.
Ardie explained that he was given the option of a refund or having his journey redirected to another train. However, Ardie chose a refund.
“Then I was asked to fill out a form to choose whether to cancel and get a refund or redirect to another train,” Ardie said.
“I was planning to choose another train earlier, but since it wasn’t certain if it would still run or be cancelled too, I think I’ll just choose another mode of transport,” he added.
Ardie mentioned that his trip to Semarang was for work. Therefore, he would try to find another mode of transport to still depart.
“I have a work trip, there’s work that has to be done today. My team was still checking tickets earlier, but the flight tickets to Semarang were also sold out,” he said.
Previously, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) announced adjustments to train operations today, specifically for journeys from and to the Jakarta area (Gambir and Pasar Senen Stations).
Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, Franoto Wibowo, expressed apologies for the inconvenience experienced by customers due to this train disruption. He assured that KAI would provide a 100 percent refund of ticket fares excluding booking fees in accordance with applicable regulations.
