Long March and Motorcycle Convoy: Workers' Masses Fill Area in Front of DPR Building

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Masses of workers from the Indonesian Workers’ Confederation (KSPI) and the Workers’ Party began filling the area in front of the DPR RI gate, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (16/4/2026). Observations at the location showed that groups of workers along with two green command vehicles arrived in front of the gate around 11:30 AM WIB. Hundreds of motorcycles proceeded in a convoy to the action site. They arrived while singing protest songs such as “Buruh Tani” and shouting chants of “Long Live Workers” upon reaching the protest location. The area on the side of Jalan Gatot Subroto is now filled with the workers’ motorcycles parked near the action site. Meanwhile, the masses lined up right in front of the DPR gate consisted of the Metal Guard group from the Indonesian Metal Workers’ Union Federation (FSPMI), wearing black and red clothing. In addition, masses wearing FSPMI uniforms in blue and white also dominated the area around the DPR RI building. Flags of FSPMI, the Workers’ Party, and workers’ unions from various companies coloured the action site. Furthermore, a number of masses from the National Workers’ Union (SPN) wearing blue clothing were also seen gathering on the side of the road. Street vendors hawking their wares began to appear crowded in the demonstration area. Hundreds of police have started lining up and standing ready on the side of Jalan Gatot Subroto to regulate traffic flow. The arrival of hundreds of motorcycles following the convoy also caused traffic to become congested. Two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles can now only proceed at low speeds because traffic is starting to be monitored as densely crawling.
