JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The extended holiday period for the Ascension of Jesus Christ, which falls on Thursday (14 May 2026), has been used by the public to travel.

Jasamarga Metropolitan Tollroad (JMT) recorded an increase in traffic volume on several toll road sections in Jabodetabek and West Java.

Based on JMT data, vehicle movement was monitored as being heavy towards the Puncak tourist area in Bogor, as well as the Rancaekek and Garut areas. Conversely, traffic towards Soekarno-Hatta Airport and Merak was quieter compared to normal days.

The most significant increase occurred at the Ciawi 1 Toll Gate. As many as 43,228 vehicles passed through heading towards Puncak, an increase of 28.38 percent compared to normal traffic of 33,672 vehicles.

β€œThe increase in traffic volume was monitored heading towards the Puncak Bogor tourist area and the Rancaekek and Garut areas. We continue to ensure that operational services run optimally through the readiness of officers,” said Widiyatmiko in an official statement, Friday (15 May 2026).

For the West Java direction, the Cileunyi Toll Gate, which leads to Rancaekek and Garut, recorded 34,461 vehicles, or an increase of 4.36 percent from normal. Meanwhile, traffic entering the city of Bandung through the Pasteur Toll Gate actually decreased slightly by 1.52 percent to 33,902 vehicles.

For travellers, Jasa Marga has prepared a number of Rest Areas or Rest and Service Areas (TIP).

For the Bandung/Rancaekek direction, these are available at KM 72, KM 88, and KM 147. Meanwhile, for the Puncak direction, travellers can use the TIP at KM 10, KM 35, and KM 45.

Drivers are advised to ensure that their physical condition and vehicles are in prime condition. In addition, ensure sufficient e-toll and fuel balances. Also, use the same card to enter and exit on toll road sections with a closed system such as Cipularang and Padaleunyi.
