Long Dry Season: Two Sub-districts in Jakarta Experience Drought

The Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, has revealed that two sub-distornicts in Jakarta are already experiencing drought amidst the prolonged dry season.

This was announced during a series of Jakarta Guarding ceremonies regarding preparedness for the dry season in DKI Jakarta on Wednesday (2/9).

“As you can see, today there are two sub-districts that are indeed experiencing drought, namely Kalibaru and Semper sub-districts,” said Pramono.

The Kalibaru and Semper sub-districts are located in the Cilincing District, North Jakarta.

To address the drought, the Jakarta Provincial Government is collaborating with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and other agencies to provide water tankers.

“To that end, 29 tankers have been provided from 10 participating agencies to address the water shortage issue in Jakarta,” Pramono stated.

Additionally, the BPBD and PAM Jaya have established communication channels to accommodate reports from residents affected by the drought.

“We are socialising this to the ranks of mayors, districts, and sub-districts so that if the community encounters drought incidents, they can immediately report to 112, and we will facilitate clean water distribution through PAM Jaya,” said the Head of the Jakarta BPBD, Marulitua Sijabat.

Previously, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicted that the peak of the dry season would occur from August to September 2026. However, the El Niño phenomenon itself is expected to persist until early 2027.
