Long-Distance Train Occupancy Reaches 118 Percent During 2026 Eid Transport Period

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded high public interest in using long-distance trains during the 2026 Eid transport period. From 11 March to 1 April 2026, the occupancy rate for long-distance trains reached 118.9 percent, exceeding the available seating capacity.

Overall, KAI served 4,246,274 long-distance train passengers from a total capacity of 3,571,760 seats during that period. This high occupancy rate reflects the elevated mobility of the public during the Eid exodus and return flows.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, stated that the high demand for train travel during this year’s Eid season was met thanks to operational readiness and coordination across all service lines.

According to her, KAI had undertaken various preparations to ensure smooth and comfortable travel for the public during the Eid period.

“We express our gratitude to the 5,087,458 customers who trusted KAI for their journeys during the 2026 Eid transport period. This trust serves as a foundation for us to continue maintaining punctuality, strengthening service capacity, and ensuring that train travel becomes increasingly reliable and the primary choice for the public,” said Anne.

Overall, during the 2026 Eid transport period, KAI served 5,087,458 train passengers, both long-distance and local. This figure represents an increase of approximately 8.07 percent compared to the previous year’s Eid period, which served 4,707,628 passengers.

In addition to long-distance trains, local train services also recorded positive performance by serving 841,184 passengers or an occupancy rate of around 90.7 percent from a capacity of 926,936 seats.

Compared to the 2025 Eid period, the number of long-distance train passengers increased by approximately 8.45 percent from the previous 3,915,546 passengers. Meanwhile, local train passengers rose by around 6.20 percent compared to last year’s 792,082 passengers.

KAI also recorded maintained operational performance during the 2026 Eid transport period. Train departure punctuality reached 99.80 percent, while arrival punctuality was recorded at 98.86 percent.

To meet additional travel capacity needs, KAI also introduced a series of People’s Economy Class trains on additional services for the Lempuyangan–Pasar Senen (return) route. This service recorded 10,394 passengers on the Lempuyangan–Pasar Senen route with 127 percent occupancy, and 10,233 passengers on the return route with 125 percent occupancy.

Additionally, KAI supported the Free Motorcycle Repatriation programme organised by the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation by serving 48,740 mudik participants during this year’s Eid period.
