Lombok NGOs re-registered

MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: The provincial administration
plans to re-register local non-governmental organizations as
ordered by the minister of home affairs.

"There are approximately 200 NGOs in the province but only 50
have registered with the government," the head of the province's
social and political affairs department, Pattikae, said last
week.

According to Pattikae, NGOs which fail to register are not
recognized by the government.

"Thus far no local NGO has made any trouble," he added.

A local unit of the unrecognized Independent Election
Monitoring Committee recently established is not considered a
troublemaker, Pattikae said, without elaborating. (14)
