Lombok Dev Meetup Brings Technology Enthusiasts Together
Mataram (ANTARA) — The Programming Community student activity unit at Universitas Bumigora (UBG) in Mataram successfully held a technology gathering called Lombok Dev Meetup: Student Edition at the university’s Sport Centre on Sunday.
The event, themed “From Students for Students: Building a Cross-Campus Technology Collaboration Ecosystem in Lombok”, attracted strong interest from school pupils and university students at various higher education institutions across Lombok.
Held at UBG’s Sport Centre from 08.00 Central Indonesia Time, the event met the organisers’ target of bringing together hundreds of students from different campuses to build a strong digital ecosystem.
Organising committee chair Alfin Agustian Pratama said Lombok Dev Meetup: Student Edition was launched because there was no dedicated, inclusive community bringing together students from different campuses across Lombok.
“We held Lombok Dev Meetup: Student Edition because we saw that there was no community bringing together students from across Lombok. Many existing events focus on professional developers. We want to bring together people in Lombok who want to learn about technology,” he said.
He added that students often feel intimidated, unprepared or left behind when events are frequently aimed at professionals.
Through this edition specifically for pupils and students, the organisers sought to bring them together to learn and discuss without feeling awkward.
“Once we are on the same wavelength, we can get together and discuss things smoothly. We can also bring in professionals and discuss matters with people already working in the industry,” he added.
The initiative was also prompted by a significant gap between university curricula and the rapidly changing technology industry.
“As we know, there is a major gap between university curricula, which are generally updated only about every five years, and today’s rapidly changing industry,” he said.
Thanks to close collaboration between UBG’s Programming Community and the Lombok Dev community, as well as publicity support from online media, the programme—which included a talk show, sharing sessions, showcases of innovative products and networking—ran smoothly from beginning to end.
