Logo for Indonesia's 81st Independence Day Selected via Public Vote, Fajar Novario's Design Wins

The government has officially selected the logo for the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia through an open voting mechanism. The move was taken as a form of respect for public aspirations and an effort to strengthen public participation in the 2026 independence celebrations. Head of the Government Communication Body (Bakom) RI, Muhammad Qodari, asserted that the voting result is proof of the government’s commitment to respecting the people’s choice. According to him, the visual identity for this independence commemoration is not merely a unilateral decision by the authorities, but belongs to the entire nation. “The results demonstrate the government’s commitment to respecting public choice. Thus, the logo for the 81st Indonesian Independence Day commemoration belongs not only to the government, but also to all Indonesian people,” Qodari said in an official statement in Jakarta on Monday (6/7). The voting process lasted for five days, from 24 to 28 June 2026. Participation was recorded as extensive, involving communities from various regions to the Indonesian diaspora abroad. A total of 68,569 votes were cast to choose one of five candidate logo designs. Based on the final results, the work of designer Fajar Novario from Padang, West Sumatra, emerged as the winner. The design garnered 30,699 votes, equivalent to 44.73 percent of the total votes cast. This direct public involvement through open voting to determine the Independence Day logo is the first time it has been conducted by the Indonesian government. Qodari explained that the selected logo for the 81st Independence Day not only excels aesthetically but also carries a profound message aligned with the theme of this year’s commemoration. The visual represents the spirit of togetherness, unity, and hope for a sovereign, just, and prosperous Indonesia. The government hopes this participatory mechanism can become a new, more inclusive, and collaborative tradition in the future. Furthermore, public involvement from the early stages is expected to boost the community’s enthusiasm in enlivening the series of independence commemorations.
