Logic cannot function without logistics. If hungry, students cannot think with focus.

Surabaya (ANTARA) - The State University of Surabaya (Unesa) is distributing 35,000 free breakfast portions to students during the final semester examinations (UAS) for the June 2026 period, spanning 13 faculties across four campuses. This initiative serves as an effort to support student concentration and nutritional needs.

“Students rarely eat breakfast, especially during final exams. They usually study late into the night, so they head straight to their exams in the morning. This programme is very helpful,” said Jefta Grasia Putra, a student of the Pancasila and Civic Education study programme, in Surabaya on Tuesday.

The free breakfast programme commenced on Tuesday and will continue until 12 June 2026. A total of 35,000 food portions are being distributed across 13 faculties located at Campus I Ketintang, Campus II Lidah Wetan, Campus III Moestopo, and Campus V Magetan.

At the Ketintang Campus, breakfast distribution began early in the morning across several faculties, including the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisipol). Staff began collecting food packages from Boganesa Catering as early as 05:00 WIB to be distributed to various lecture buildings.

“We place them in each building. There are officers stationed in each building, and students sign an attendance sheet according to their respective study programmes. There are no special queues; students simply arrive in the morning, sign the attendance, and collect their breakfast,” an official noted.

A similar programme is underway at the Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS) at the Lidah Wetan Campus. Breakfast packages are being distributed in the FBS Joglo area for students taking morning exam sessions.

The Dean of FBS, Syafi’ul Anam, stated that the programme is a form of the university’s care for student needs during the examination period.

The Vice Dean of FBS, Anas, explained that the programme aims to boost student morale, demonstrate university support, and strengthen togetherness through communal breakfast.

“Logic cannot function without logistics. If hungry, students cannot think with focus. With breakfast, they can be more relaxed and calm while answering exam questions,” he said.

Aulia Ainun, a 2025 English Literature student, admitted that the programme helps students who often lack the time to eat breakfast before heading to campus.

“If we are hungry, we lose focus on reading the questions and end up thinking about food. I feel very well cared for by the university,” she said.

Unesa will evaluate the implementation of the programme, including the accuracy of the portion counts and menu variety, to ensure the benefits can be optimised for all students.
