Lockton Launches Global Data Centre & Digital Infrastructure Practice
Kansas City, Missouri — Lockton, the world’s largest independent privately owned insurance broker, has today launched its global Data Centre & Digital Infrastructure Practice. This consulting practice is designed to assist organisations in navigating the complex risks associated with the infrastructure used to store, process, and transmit information globally. The specialised practice is built upon Lockton’s extensive experience in managing complex digital infrastructure risks, including hyperscale campuses, multi-building developments, phased construction programmes, operational portfolios, and power-related infrastructure.
“Data centres are at the heart of modern global operations, while the risk landscape accompanying such infrastructure is becoming increasingly interconnected, capital-intensive, and time-sensitive,” said Tim Ryan, President of Lockton US. “Organisations require advisors who understand the entire lifecycle, from planning and site selection to ongoing operations and scaling. Our practice is designed to provide consultancy to clients so they can face these complexities with confidence.”
The practice integrates risk strategy, analytics, engineering insights, and market expertise into a single consulting model, serving the entire ecosystem, including owners, operators, developers, investors, hyperscalers, and technology providers. The team supports clients from the project planning stage—when fundamental risk decisions are made—through to construction, operational launch, portfolio expansion, and ongoing risk management.
While solutions will be tailored to individual client needs, the new practice provides a range of innovative products and exclusive solutions covering construction and property risks, errors and omissions, service level agreements, environmental risks, cyber risks, underwriting, and more.
“The global data centre and digital infrastructure market is expanding very rapidly,” said Chris Brown, CEO of Lockton International. “Lockton’s independent model allows us to pool global expertise from various regions around the world, tailor solutions to each client’s business, and provide consultancy that goes far beyond traditional insurance placement.”
The Data Centre & Digital Infrastructure Practice will be led by James Nelson in the United States and Sam Baker in the United Kingdom. Both will work alongside Lockton leaders worldwide to execute the overall strategy. Nelson brings deep experience in risk consulting, advisory services, and insurance, having previously held leadership roles at Eldin Risk, Marsh, Cerberus Capital, and Alvarez & Marsal. Baker has been with Lockton for 13 years, specialising in innovative insurance solutions and playing a key role in developing Lockton’s exclusive data centre products.
“Our role is to help clients build and operate critical infrastructure, from the project level to the portfolio level, with greater resilience, certainty, and confidence,” said Ryan. “By managing risk proactively, organisations can reduce the time spent dealing with complexity and focus more on growth and innovation.”
