Locksmith Reveals Details of High-Security Safe in Bogor Corruption Probe
A locksmith called in by the police to open a secret safe at a house in the Sentul area of Bogor, West Java, has revealed the specifications of the storage unit. He stated that the safe, which contained gold bars and cash worth hundreds of billions of rupiah, was not an ordinary safe but one with layered security systems and a special construction.
The locksmith, named Roy, said he was summoned by the Bogor Police to assist in the safe-cracking process during a search related to the investigation of three alleged corruption cases involving PLN, ASABRI, and Krakatau Steel.
Upon arriving at the location, Roy found that the safe had a much higher level of security compared to conventional safes. Based on his experience and the type of security system used, he estimated the price of the safe to be more than Rp20 million. He noted that the quality of the materials and the locking mechanism were the main reasons why its value was far higher than ordinary iron safes commonly used.
“The security system is good. The lock uses a rotary combination and a manual key. So it has two locks, a sophisticated safe, expensive. The steel has two layers, so it is not just a box iron safe,” Roy said when met in Sentul, Bogor, on Thursday, July 9, 2026.
Roy explained that one of the safe’s advantages lay in its dual-locking system. The safe combined two security mechanisms simultaneously: a rotary combination lock and a manual key lock. The combination of these two systems made the opening process more difficult because it was not enough to open just one type of lock. In addition, the material was composed of double-layered steel, providing a higher level of protection compared to standard safes.
According to Roy, the construction meant that the safe could not be opened simply by unlocking the locking system; instead, a cutting tool had to be used. After attempting to breach the manual locking part, Roy and officers eventually used an angle grinder to open the safe door.
