Location of Fatal Accident Where SMAN 6 Student Died After Motorcycle Snagged on Cable

A tenth-grade student from SMAN 6 Jakarta, with the initials NAEP, died after falling from a motorcycle that snagged on a steel cable and was subsequently run over by a school bus in South Jakarta. The victim was being taken to school at the time. The fatal accident occurred on Jalan Leuser, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, near Taman Leuser, on Thursday (18/6/2026) at around 5.30 a.m. Observations at the location on Saturday (20/6/2026) afternoon showed the electricity pole where the cable had stretched across the road was on the right-hand side. There were no longer any cables dangling onto the road shoulder. It is understood that the cable, which had previously been hanging low and is suspected of triggering the accident, was tidied up by officers shortly after the incident. Although the low-hanging cable is gone, electricity cables are still visible stretching across the upper part of the road. These cables appear bundled among the trees and their position looks lower than the tree branches at the site. A local resident, Ferdi (33), admitted he did not witness the accident directly. However, he stated that before being tidied, the cable was indeed in a very low position. ‘The cable was coiled around the electricity pole. They say it hit the handlebars and got snagged. The information is that the rider (the victim’s father) swerved to overtake, the handlebars caught the cable, they fell, and then bounced under the bus,’ Ferdi said when met at the location. Ferdi also mentioned that the cable had previously only been tied with raffia string. ‘Yes, there was a cable on the electricity pole tied with raffia string. It was at the height of a motorcycle’s handlebars,’ he added. Besides the cable factor, Ferdi also noted the narrow road conditions caused by the many school buses that often parked or queued on the road shoulder every morning. However, after the accident, those yellow buses are no longer seen on Jalan Leuser. ‘Sorry to say, but the school buses here are actually a nuisance. They park here, so the road becomes narrow, and cars all move to the middle. But after this incident, they’ve never parked here again,’ Ferdi said. Echoing Ferdi, Surya (29), a trader near the location, said PLN officers immediately tidied the cables shortly after the accident. ‘Around half past eleven in the morning, they were still here on standby, like PLN officers. When I came here at 11 a.m., it was all sorted, everything was tidy,’ Surya said. NAEP’s journey to SMAN 6 Jakarta was cut short after the motorcycle driven by her father, DJ, snagged a cable, causing them to fall and be run over by a bus. The student’s life could not be saved; she died on her way to gain knowledge. The fatal accident occurred on Thursday (18/6) morning on Jalan Leuser, South Jakarta. The victim was being taken to SMAN 6 by her father from Ciledug. ‘The incident began in the morning around 5.30 a.m. WIB. When a motorcycle rider with a pillion passenger was passing through Jalan Leuser. They happened to live in the Ciledug area and were taking a child to school,’ said Kebayoran Baru Sub-district Head Rachmat Mulyadi, as reported by Antara. The accident happened as the motorcycle carrying the victim passed the location on Jalan Leuser. The motorcycle’s handlebars are suspected to have snagged a cable that was stretched across and protruding into the road, causing the vehicle to wobble and the riders to fall. ‘When passing Jalan Leuser, right in front of the park, there was a cable stretched across, somewhat protruding into the road, so the rider’s handlebars got caught, then wobbled, causing them to fall, and during that fall, the pillion passenger became a fatality,’ Rachmat explained. According to information obtained, after falling, the vehicle had slight contact with a school bus. However, the exact cause of the accident is still under police investigation, and the traffic accident handling has been taken over by the South Jakarta Metro Police. ‘Regarding the subsequent matter, it is alleged that from behind, they also had contact with a school bus. The traffic accident has been handled by the South Jakarta Metro Police,’ Rachmat stated.
