Location of Attack on KontraS Activist Andrie Yunus Known as Crime Hotspot for Robbery and Mugging
JAKARTA — The location where corrosive liquid was thrown at Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), on Jalan Salemba I, Senen District, Central Jakarta, is known to residents as a crime-prone area vulnerable to robbery and mugging.
The location is situated on Jalan Salemba I, adjacent to Jalan Talang, Talang Bridge, and the Pegangsaan area in Menteng District, Central Jakarta.
A resident named Temu (42) pointed to the suspected location of the corrosive liquid attack on Andrie, which was near Talang Bridge. From observations conducted, there is only one street light near the attack location.
Along Jalan Salemba I, however, there are dozens of street lights. Approximately 50 metres from the incident location there is a laundry shop, the Nurul Fikri tutoring centre, and a food stall. However, when the area was visited, all these shops were closed.
On Friday evening, the food stall and laundry were closed as their owners had gone home for the holidays. Meanwhile, near Talang Bridge, two young men were seen sitting whilst using their mobile phones.
Traffic conditions around the incident location remained busy between 22:00 and 23:00. Both two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles were seen passing along Jalan Salemba I and Jalan Talang. Nevertheless, Talang Bridge appeared dark. Across the bridge there are several food stalls, coffee shops, and residential houses.
