Locals vandalize multipurpose building

JAKARTA: Residents of Jl. Bogor Lama in Pasar Manggis subdistrict, Manggarai, South Jakarta, vandalized a multipurpose building on Tuesday at about 8 p.m.

The local neighborhood unit head, Edi Ramelan, said the building, which belongs to the Huria Kristen Batak Protestan Foundation, was supposed to serve as a health clinic and a meeting hall.

However, the building is said will temporarily be served as a church, which sparked the anger of locals.

Residents threw chairs out into the street, destroyed the guard room and broke windows. No injuries were reported.

The case is being handled by the Setia Budi Police, which has mediated a discussion between the building's management and residents. -- JP
