Locals protest Tangerang Court

TANGERANG (JP): A group from the Tangerang People's Communication Forum for Human Rights (Formatan HAM) staged a protest in front of the Tangerang District Court on Saturday, demanding the proper prosecution for a case involving a labor activist.

The group said Marzuki, 45, a former employee of PT Kencana Indah Garmenindo, had legally won a dispute over the company's decision to expel him due to his involvement in establishing a labor union two years ago.

"But the company refused to pay the compensation even after the court ruled in Marzuki's favor," Alit Yulianto, the group coordinator, said.

The company responded by filing a lawsuit against Marzuki at the State Administrative Court.

"We suspect that the judges in this case were colluding with the company. Therefore, we want the case to be dropped," Alit said. (41/edt)
