Locals get brochures on AIDS day

FAKFAK, Papua: The commemoration of the World AIDS Day in Fakfak regency, Papua was marked by the dissemination of brochures on HIV/AIDS to local people.

Chairman of the organizing committee Benny Kwa said the brochures contained information on how to prevent HIV/AIDS and an appeal to local people to avoid risky behavior.

"The activity was funded by activists from the Indonesian Red Cross," Benny was quoted by Antara as saying on Tuesday.

He stressed that the activity was aimed at giving early warning to local people and families about AIDS.

To date, there is one person with AIDS in Fakfak regency. In the neighboring Kaimana regency, 30 people are known to have contracted HIV/AIDS, mostly Thai fishermen working for a local fishing company. -- Antara
