The women's singles title went to Kyung Yee-chae of South Korea who defeated her compatriot Young Ja-choi 1-6, 6-3, 6-1. Kyung took $1,600 and Young $1,000.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Indonesian Tennis Association (Pelti), Tanri Abeng, said during the tournament on Sunday that he personally had no objection if the association wants to hold an extraordinary congress.

"I am not against holding a congress as long as it does not make conclusions which I believe are irrelevant," Tanri told Antara news agency on Sunday.

Tanri said Pelti is an organization consisting of members who are still conducting planned programs.

He said difficulties can always occur in the application of programs. "We have to understand that not all the plans are conducted 100 percent."

Tanri is the former state minister of investment and state- owned enterprises (BUMN).

He further said Pelti, under his leadership, had tried hard to improve the organization. "You must remember that we are facing a national crisis but we are trying our best to improve our organization."

Referring to the extraordinary congress, Tanri said there was no problem at all.

"I don't see any problem of holding the congress. Since I am no longer a minister, I have more time to concentrate on Pelti," Tanri said. (lnt)
