Local govts told to boost education
MANADO, North Sulawesi: Vice President Hamzah Haz urged on
Friday governors, regents and majors to hold discussions on how
to improve the quality of childhood education.
Speaking after Friday prayers at the Nurul Huda Mosque in
Manado, Hamzah said regional administrations must be serious
about improving education or Indonesia would fall behind other
countries.
"I urge them to discuss with Minister of Education
Abdul Malik Fajar ways to improve the education system," he said.
The Vice President said education should focus on mastering
science and technology, which he said would allow the country to
end its reliance on foreign aid. --Antara
