Local govts sign agreement with GTZ

YOGYAKARTA: GTZ Urban Quality, a German project in Indonesia, and the joint secretariat of Yogyakarta municipality, Sleman regency, and Bantul regency (known collectively as "Kartamantul"), signed a cooperation agreement on institutional and capacity building in the three local governments at the Yogyakarta Melia Purosani Hotel on Thursday.

The agreement is for a project running from 2003 to 2005 and involves the allocation of Rp 400 million and technical assistance worth Rp 1.2 billion from GTZ.

Head of the GTZ Urban Quality project, Gerd Sippel, said that future initiatives under the agreement would include the wider aspects of urban development and cooperative management in areas such as transportation, water supply, waste water management, solid waste management, cultural heritage and geo-risk assessment. -- JP
