Deputy for Food Affordability and Security Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Food, Nani Hendiarti, has affirmed the government’s commitment to advancing PSEL (Waste-to-Energy Processing) projects to convert waste into green electricity. The government is currently designating three PSEL projects in Bogor Raya, Bekasi, and Denpasar Raya as National Strategic Programmes (PSN) to expedite their construction. Beyond PSEL, the government is also encouraging the development of innovation and technology to accelerate waste processing, such as biomass and plastic waste treatment through the Fastpol Gen 5 Pyrolysis method developed by BRIN. One of the issues being addressed in the PSEL projects is streamlining the administrative process at the regional government level without a tipping fee. Previously, local governments were burdened with the costs of PSEL development, but now there is no tipping fee; instead, local governments are required to commit to ensuring upstream waste processing and guaranteeing the fulfilment of waste supply.
