Local Government's Good Work Deserves Appreciation
The 2026 Batch II Regional Sulawesi Achievement Awards for Local Governments was held this evening. The Deputy Editor-in-Chief of detikcom, Fajar Pratama, stated that this event is intended to provide space for local governments to innovate in meeting the needs of the people.
The event took place at the Claro Hotel, Makassar, on Friday (18/9/2026). Attendees included the Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, and the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs, Djamari Chaniago. Also present were the Governor of South Sulawesi, Andi Sudirman Sulaiman, and a member of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Taufan Pawe.
“Honourable Coordinating Minister, Minister of Home Affairs, and ladies and gentlemen. As a media outlet, detikcom sees many stories regarding local governments every day. Some involve problems, some involve criticism, and some go viral. However, today we want to provide an equally large space for something that is often not discussed as widely, which is good work,” said Fajar Pratama in his opening remarks.
Fajar emphasised that the good work of local governments deserves appreciation. It is hoped that innovation programmes and the prioritisation of the nation’s youth will continue.
“Because the good work of local governments also deserves to be a news headline. When children gain wider access to education, that is news. When the community receives increasingly better healthcare services, that is news,” said Fajar.
“When waste is managed and the environment becomes more beautiful, that is also news. And when the community gains access to decent housing through the 3 Million Houses Programme, that is certainly an important story for the public to know,” he added.
He noted that access to education, healthcare services, waste management, and access to decent housing are all related to daily life. Therefore, detikcom encourages local governments to intensify innovation programmes so that the people can directly benefit from them.
“These four issues may sound like government matters. But for the community, they are all part of daily life. These four areas are what form the basis of today’s appreciation for the regional heads and local government officials across Sulawesi who are receiving recognition today,” he said.
“On behalf of detikcom, I express my deepest congratulations and gratitude. Let us continue to move forward together, report on the good, and build Indonesia from the regions,” concluded Fajar.
