Local Electronics Entrepreneurs Cry Foul Over Imported Products Using This Method

Jakarta - Electronics industry players believe the development of digital platforms presents new challenges for domestic producers. Imported products can now be sold directly to consumers without going through the distribution chain that local businesses have traditionally relied on. Chairman of the Indonesian Electronics Commodity Entrepreneurs Association (Apkonik), Deny Irawan, said this issue is closely linked to the increasing influx of imported goods into Indonesia. According to him, this situation makes price competition increasingly difficult to avoid. “When these imports enter in large quantities without any cycle restrictions, they go directly from the producer to the buyer. So, there is no cycle anymore,” Deny said on Monday (27/7/2026). This condition forces domestic industry players to work harder to maintain competitiveness. Besides facing cheaper prices, local producers must also continue to bear production costs and comply with various applicable regulations. “Producers, especially importers, are also entering digital platforms directly. As a result, domestic businesses and industries are experiencing difficulties,” he stated. Deny hopes the government will take steps to create a more balanced competition within digital platforms. According to him, collaboration between the government and business players is key to ensuring the electronics industry continues to thrive. “We need collaboration, perhaps from the government, to anticipate this matter,” Deny said.
